Ingredients

2 cups self rising flour

1/2 cup dark brown sugar

2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

pinch of salt

1 stick unsalted butter

2 pieces cooked bacon, crumbled

1 cup mashed sweet potatoes

1/8 cup buttermilk

1/8 cup half and half

Preparation

Preheat oven to 400. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar, spices, and salt. Cut in the butter until crumbs are no larger than peas. Stir in the crumbled bacon. Combine the buttermilk and sweet potatoes and stir this into the flour mixture until dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix, for this will result in a tough biscuit. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead briefly. Pat out to 1/2 inch thick and cut into your desired size. Place on a baking sheet and brush each biscuit lightly with half and half. Bake for 12 to 16 minutes.
