Ingredients
2 large boneless round steaks
melted shortening
3-4 onions, thinly sliced
salt
pepper
1 C flour
2 large (32 oz) cans of whole tomatoes (remove stem and crush tomatoes in your hand)
Preparation
Cut round steak into four or five pieces depending on the size of the round steak. Pound each piece to tenderize. Salt and pepper each piece on both sides. Dredge steak in flour and lightly brown both sides in melted shortening in electric skillet or deep frying pan.
Remove browned pieces and drain remaining grease. Return steak to frying pan. Layer with sliced onions. Cover with crushed tomatoes and all juice from the cans. Bring to a boil, then turn to low heat and simmer for several hours until tender.
