Ingredients

3 oz olive oil

1 onion finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 TBSP nutmeg, freshly grated

2 TBSP sugar

4 28 oz peeled plum tomatoes

2 10 oz tomato paste

6 oz red wine

3 TBSP butter

4 TBSP chopped fresh basil

salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

Heat oil in a large pot and saute onion and garlic until softened. Add nutmeg and sugar and cook for 2 minutes. Pour tomatoes into a bowl and mash with a hand blender. Add to pot with paste, wine and butter. Simmer 30 minutes, add basil. Adjust seasonings
